Doctor Who: The Cancelled Years

Season 55 of Doctor Who would’ve been the third season for Jemma Redgrave as the Doctor, the second season for Rebecca Root as Joanne Tilley, the first season for Ravin J Ganatra as Anderson Stenhouse, and the final season for Pete McTighe & Sarah Dollard as co-showrunners. This season would introduce a new companion named Anderson, a crane driver from the year 2020, played by Ravin J Gantara. This wouldn’t have been Gantara’s first appearance on Doctor Who, having played minor characters in Return of the Living Dad, Planet of the Nestene & The Pyramid story Greeks Bearing Gifts. The story sees teenagers attempting to claim the title of Phoenix Champion by competing against others in a series of obstacle & parkour courses (essentially something similar to Total Wipeout or Ninja Warrior ). We see that both Jon & Rhys have entered the competition, with the 2 of them hoping to share the title by the end. However, something sinister is happening, as Jo has detected strange signals from the studio where the show is filmed, as well as multiple reports about the winners of the show vanishing not long after their TV appearance. Season 54 would've been the second season for Jemma Redgrave as the Doctor, the first season for Rebecca Root as Joanne Tilley & the second season for Pete McTighe & Sarah Dollard as showrunner. This season would've  the introduction  companion, Joanne. Joanne would've been played by trans actress Rebecca Root, thus it was decided to make Joanne the first transgender companion. Behind the scenes, Season 54 had somewhat of a rocky production. The BBC wanted to start airing Doctor Who in a winter time slot, in an attempt to fix the issue of declining viewing figures. Therefore, it was decided to delay Season 54 & begin broadcasting in January 2019, making this the first time Doctor Who had broadcast early into the year since Season 22.
