Doctor Who: The Cancelled Years

The Destiny of Sally Ryder would’ve been a 90 minute special to mark the BBC’s Centenary Special. It would’ve starred Rakhee Thakrar in her first proper adventure as the Sixteenth Doctor, as well as starring former Doctor Who stars Robert Carlyle & Sheridan Smith as the Twelfth Doctor & Sally Ryder. Promotion & marketing for the special would’ve largely focused on the return of Carlyle & Smith to Doctor Who, who, by this point in history, were seen to be the stars of Doctor Who’s golden age (similar to David Tennant & Catherine Tate from our own universe). The Special would’ve aired on the 23rd of November 2022, with the next season of Doctor Who being announced for broadcast in early 2023. The special would’ve been written by both McTighe & Dollard. Season 56 of Doctor Who would’ve been the final season for Jemma Redgrave as the Doctor, Rebecca Root as Joanne Tilley, Ravin J Ganatra as Anderson Stenhouse, & the fourth season for Pete McTighe & Sarah Dollard as co-showrunners.  Season 56 would’ve had the most troubled production of Doctor Who since 1986. Originally planned to be transmitted in early 2021, Season 56 was planned to be the fourth & final season for Redgrave's Doctor. However, when Covid 19 hit in early 2020, the season was delayed until mid to late 2021, when it was hoped Covid had died down enough. Realising that their initial plans for Season 56 wouldn't be possible with Covid restrictions, McTighe & Dollard scrapped the proposed Season 56 to work on a new idea. With production on Season 56 finally commencing in late 2020, Season 56 was scheduled to air in early 2022. For this season, it was decided to have one long ongoing story, similar to Season 23 of Doctor Who & The Pyramid: Children...

Series 4 of The Jo Jones Chronicles would’ve starred Katy Manning, Tyger Drew-Honey & Rukku Nahar in their fourth & final season as Jo & Jon Jones & Yasmin Garcia Despite not what was originally planned, Series 4 of The Jo Jones Chronicles would prove to be the final series of the show. Originally, the show was to continue beyond this series with a fifth series in late 2022. However, in early 2022, Stewart Bevan, the actor of Clifford Jones, passed away in February, roughly a month before Series 5 was planned to start production. With the death of Bevan looming over the show, as well as the rumours that Phil Ford, Tyger Drew-Honey & Rukku Nahar were considering leaving at the end, it was decided to end the show after it’s fourth series concluded. Like all television in 2020 & 2021, The Jo Jones Chronicles was heavily affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, which resulted in a halving of the episode count from 12 episodes / 6 stories to only 6 episodes / 3 stories.
